"We are launching our price index for the shared accommodation in Paris in order to help all aspiring roommates have the right information on what is the crux of the matter when it comes to accommodation: the price,” explains the founder of “Colocation à Paris"Paris is a first step, other cities in France and Europe will follow."
And although in full development, the culture of shared accommodation is less anchored in Paris than in other European capitals, such as London, which has no fewer than six million roommates. Indeed, according to a survey published last June, only 12% of young people choose shared accommodation. However, for students who have chosen to live in a community, particularly those who have recently arrived in Paris to follow their studies and who do not yet have references in the capital, this index can prove very useful.
You need to count at least 600 euros for a bedroom in the center of the capital
The lessons we learn about the price of shared accommodation in Paris:
- The neighborhoods most conducive to community living are located in the north of Paris. The stations Château d'Eau (10th arrondissement), Château Rouge (18th), Jacques Bonsergent (10th), Pigalle (18th), Stalingrad (19th), Guy Moquet (18th) or Gare de l'Est (10th) are the places strong in shared accommodation; while the Champs-Elysées-Clemenceau (8th), Charles de Gaulle-Etoile (8th), Défense-Grande Arche (Puteaux) are the deserts of community life.
- Logically, for limited budgets, the least expensive areas of the capital are located on the outskirts of Paris.
- You need to pay at least 600 euros for a room in the center of the capital.
- The metro stations where the ratio between rent and proximity to the center of Paris is the most advantageous are Belleville (20th), Jacques Bonsergent (10th), Jussieu (5th) and Voltaire (11th). For wealthier students, the most upscale metro stations are Madeleine (8th), Concorde (1st), Saint Germain desprès (6th) or George V (8th).
- For a shared room in an apartment with parquet flooring, moldings and fireplace, they will have to pay no less than 900 euros per month.
